I think that this poem, speaks of how she longs to be loved, however, with
the way her life is, she feels unworthy of said love and cannot accept it.
Also, Sara Teasdale did not live a happy life. She was chronically ill, and
committed suicide with barbituates in 1933. I believe that poetry was this
woman's release, and without it she would've rather died much earlier.

I agree that it's about solitude. Especially since sh'e written other poems
about solitude.

you guys are all bumbling idiots.Rao's comment was the only intelligent
one. it's a great poem. teasdale acknowledges human solitude, even in the
face of perfect, unconditional love.

to me this poem is different...i dont think its about depression at all...i
think its a mask of cover her own fear of having no love and wanting to get
out and become a prostitute

This is a very sad poem with a very sad ending. She feels that there is
something missing in her life and that she thinks she can only find peace
in death. Very sad.

This poem is about a lady who is and feels like she lost someone whom she
loved! As if there is no one who understands how she feels! Like her life
is just all sad! As if she is missing a part of life! Thats what i think
about this poem!
