Analysis and comments on When de Co'n Pone's Hot by Paul Laurence Dunbar

While I have heard this poem read many times by seniors I enjoyed hearing
it but never truly understood it. I now understand that although they
worked very hard and were very poor there were good times. One of his
favorite times was when mammy prepared food. The smell and appearance of
the food was a delightful time for him.

As I was growing up my mother read many of Mr Dunbars' poem and I learned
to appreciate his ability to make the reader actually feel as though he's
present.I'm sorry that as time passes many of our ethinic treasures are
lost and our young ones' will not have the joy of seeing in their minds eye
our past that although things were difficult there were good times to be
enjoyed.
