Maya Angelou - Woman Work

I've got the children to tend
The clothes to mend
The floor to mop
The food to shop
Then the chicken to fry
The baby to dry
I got company to feed
The garden to weed
I've got shirts to press
The tots to dress
The can to be cut
I gotta clean up this hut
Then see about the sick
And the cotton to pick.

Shine on me, sunshine
Rain on me, rain
Fall softly, dewdrops
And cool my brow again.

Storm, blow me from here
With your fiercest wind
Let me float across the sky
'Til I can rest again.

Fall gently, snowflakes
Cover me with white
Cold icy kisses and
Let me rest tonight.

Sun, rain, curving sky
Mountain, oceans, leaf and stone
Star shine, moon glow
You're all that I can call my own.

I wanted you to know how much your poetry has influenced my life and encouraged me through tough times, and in good times it has inspired me. You see I am Bipolar and that can be very rough but in my darkest hours i turn to God, Prayer and Your Poetry. I would also like you to know that I am a white woman who very proudly calls you her favorite inspirational poet who inspires all races of both men and women. My sincerest
gratitude and please continue to write prolifically.

I was at work & got tired of just thinking of all that has to be done when I get home. I decided to google you & I have to say your poem has brightened my day! My kids are awesome & I really don't mind doing anything for them but your poem made me smile at all that we actually do in a day. Once again Ms. Maya you have lifted a woman's spririts. May God Bless You & Heaven Smile Upon You.
