This is a lovely poem; I'm glad it was up this morning and brought to my
attention by another commenter. To me this is a very sensual poem, one of
opposites, the yin yang - it is one of sexual attraction and even of
ejaculation and conception. I am sure that if I didn't know the color of
the author's skin, I would not have ever read it any other way.

The first stanza conveys difference, but not dislike, in race and skin
colour. The second and third stanzas signify hope and a turning in the way
that races view one another. There is hope in this poem and I feel that
Maya has shown great wisdom in this very powerful yet very compact poem.
