I enjoy this poem because it seems as though she is being real. She
expresses her self through this poem and its easy for people to understand.
I can relate to this poem and i've loved maya angelou for a long time now.
God bless maya.

This poem is deeper than meets the eye i believe. If you read Maya
Angelou's Biography, she has not had the best of life's from having to cope
with the world as it was with rasicm and other of lifes difficulties in
which that braught with it. This poem is deffinatly what she has been
through, experienced and now reflecting from what she has seen. I agree
with Jon Raduazzo in which temporary pleasure is met through money and
trophy wifes, but it will never fill that empty space of having others
there for you. I also agree with Carrie Wade in which has said that the
human race cannot live alone as individuals in isolation. Maya in the poem,
is then stressing about the way we treat other, maybe this is evident from
the line 'storm clouds are gathering'. And also 'the race of man is
suffering'.
overall, although i am only 17 years of age, this poem is that powerfull in
its own way, it can touch out to me, an individual in which does not have a
general interest in poetry, but can give me the message of what i have
described i think this poem is about.

Lying, thinking
Last night
How to find my soul a home
Where water is not thirsty
And bread loaf is not stone
I came up with one thing
And I don't believe I'm wrong
That nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.
Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.
There are some millionaires
With money they can't use
Their wives run round like banshees
Their children sing the blues
They've got expensive doctors
To cure their hearts of stone.
But nobody
No, nobody
Can make it out here alone.
Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.
Now if you listen closely
I'll tell you what I know
Storm clouds are gathering
The wind is gonna blow
The race of man is suffering
And I can hear the moan,
'Cause nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.
Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

I think there is more meaning than just saying that a person can't live
alone, I think she means that we as a people can't live without the other
people of this world...I think she means that even if you have a great life
with a great wife and a great family you still need to exsist in the
company of humanity. That is why I think she mentions that the human race
is suffering and she hears it moaning from the pain of racism and
separation due to other prejudice. No race or culture or religious
organization can live in isolation from the rest of humanity.

I believe that this poem is discussing how a person cannot live life
without companions in both loving family and friends and faith in God.
Money and trophy wives can give you temporary pleasure, but in the end
youll still end up alone. And no one but no one can make it alone. A person
needs to sharing a loving bond with others and the presence of God will
always be with them and give them something to live for.
