Maya Angelou - Touched by An Angel

We, unaccustomed to courage
exiles from delight
live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
and comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.

Love arrives
and in its train come ecstasies
old memories of pleasure
ancient histories of pain.
Yet if we are bold,
love strikes away the chains of fear
from our souls.

We are weaned from our timidity
In the flush of love's light
we dare be brave
And suddenly we see
that love costs all we are
and will ever be.
Yet it is only love
which sets us free.

I was asked to read this poem at my brother's wedding and I can understand why after reading it. This poem is perfect for any occasion when love for another is being celebrated. I looked in The complete Collected Poetry of Maya Angelou and it's not even in there. I cannot seem to find which book it is in. Please let me know if you know. Thanks!! I just luv this poem and before the project my English teacher gave us i really had no iterest well now i can't get enough so but this poem is inspiring and it has such good meaning to it and she really catches the readers attention by the vocab and the way she writes it.
