The poem that I liked the most was We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks. I
liked this poem because it shows a lot of mienang in only a few words. The
mienang that I interpreted was that a group of young men who are probably
drinkers and gamblers spend their days playing pool and drinking alcohol.
I also saw that Jazz June may possibly mean that they are out of school
and it is June. Another mienang that I saw was that when the men say We
Die soon ,they could be mienang that they are happy with the lives that
they have lived and are not afraid of death. I think that the message of
this poem is to live out your life happily and to enjoy it to the fullest.

Clifton was in her mid-fifties when she wrote Climbing, a lyric of twelve
short lines. It is an autobiographical poem about her life. She uses simple
accessible language to imagine what it would be like to be sixty years old.
The poems tone expresses a feeling of achievement. The speaker seems proud
of the decisions she has made and acknowledges the struggle ahead as she
ages. Themes that are addressed include the relationship with ageing and
desire, time and regret, and the ways in which a self image changes as
human being age.
