I have always had a warm fellow traveller feeling for Lew.The intensity of
what he saw and felt must have done him in.He is probably seen as a lesser
poet of the Beat era, but Ring of Bone, for one example,is beautifully
realized and I think damn near perfect.There are many whose "careers" and
notoriety lasted way past Lew's, but he cut right through a lotta grease
and posturing and hipness to say things well if they be given due
