Langston Hughes - Still Here

I been scared and battered.
My hopes the wind done scattered.
   Snow has friz me,
   Sun has baked me,

Looks like between 'em they done
   Tried to make me

Stop laughin', stop lovin', stop livin'--
   But I don't care!
   I'm still here!

This poem really let's everyone know that inspite of The economic situation we are facing, "We are still here" God has something better in store for us if we just hold on keep the faith, never stop laughin, lovin, and livin. As long as we can look up, we can get up!!!!! It's a blessing to be here.

Normally I'm not a fan of any pro-/anti- race poetry, but I like this poem, and it has a meaning to me even though I'm white. It's not specific in saying "negro" or whatnot, allowing you to interpret it in your own way and apply it to your own life. I'm sorry to hear that he passed away, though...
