This poem is really great. The only thing that I hate about it is the
stupid that are on here that want to talk crap about other people! YOU'RE
STUPID AND YOU NEED A LIFE!!!!!!!!!!

if you're here to talk about how "dumb" other people are, dont bother
commenting at all.. how does that make someone stupid when they're writing
about the poem that this site was umm.. created for in the first place...
hmmm... something to think about. immature people here..

After reading this poem, I think that he’s meaning to say that we have
countless obstacles in life and many points at which we feel like we’re
going to give up, but he’s meaning to tell us not to give up. In fact, to
keep living on and endure.
Evidence: “though you may hear me holler, and you may see me cry—ill be
dogged, sweet baby, if you gonna see me die.”
You’ll witness meeh experience a lot of stuff, but you won’t see me
die...INVINCIBLE???
Langston Hughes was probably going through some stuff when this was
written. Either that or just reflecting on what he HAD been through and
appreciating his decisions to stay.
The simile “life is fine/fine like wine” is emphasizing a potential
drinking problem and explains him trying to drown himself.

Langston Hughes wrote this poem to explain suicide and how easy it may be
to make that decision. It is a permanent solution for a temporary problem.
He’s sayin that no matter how lost anyone feels, someone out there cares.
We are all born for many reasons, but intentional death is not one of
them.

This poem was really great. When i first saw the poem, it already got my
attention. For me, it only shows that we have to live our life completely
but purposefully.

I think that this poem is wonderful. I had to pick a poem for my English
class and this was the first one that stood out, I also wrote a paper on
it...It just shows what life can mean to some people and even though you
want to give it all up sometimes there are things worth living for.
