Gerald Stern (1925 - Present)


Gerald Stern (born 1925 in Pittsburgh) is a United States poet. His work was widely recognized after the 1977 publication of Lucky Life and a series of essays on writing poetry in American Poetry Review. He has been given many prestigious awards for his writing, including a National Book Award for poetry in 1998. For many years he taught poetry writing at the Iowa Writers' Workshop. Stern retired in 1995.
