Analysis and comments on Sexism by David Lehman

Comment 6 of 6, added on March 12th, 2009 at 12:44 AM.

As I read this poem, I found it to be a bit....hypocritical. Please do not
take that in a negative manner, but truthfully, the poem is talking about
sexism, even though the poem in itself is sexist. It is saying men are
pigs, and women are sensitive. Not that I dislike the poem, but not all men
are sadistic fools, and not all women are loving and nice. But I do get the
thought the author had when writing.Nice Job

It's amazing how in just a few lines, this poem just pulls the rug out from
under your feet. It has such a twist and the title captures it all, yet
you don't expect the visceral reaction you get. Painfully poignant.....

I agree, this one is definitely a good poem. I find it familiar only not
knowing which role do I play whether the man or a woman. Lovers feel this
way otherwise they would switch from "lovers" to "officials" and all the
magic would evaporate...
