I persuaded our Faith and Fiction book discussion group at church to read
Billy Collins Sailing Alone Around the Room. Each person had to read a
favorite poem from the book to the group and comment briefly on it. I chose
Shoveling Show with the Buddha. I volunteer as a laundry guy in the local
homeless shelter once a week, and this poem speaks to my service among the
less fortunate doing just some necessary menial work. Helps keep me humble.
Maybe the Buddha is back there helping me sort their laundry. Some hot
chocolate and a card game afterwards sounds like a great idea!
