Billy Collins' "Litany"
I got the impression that he was contrasting life with his spouse, with
that of the other great love of his life--the one who first taught him how
to truly love, even if sometimes by default.

funny, I was thinking this was a more humorous poem because I remembered it
as Billy Collins teasing that she was not the bread and I came back to
laugh and say, You know damn well she is the bread, Billy Collins! But how
she went from a salty little laugenbrötchen to a crusty old baguette, God
only knows.
