This is beautifully written - so tight in form and content. There is a
slight "amateurishness" about it which actually adds to its charm. This is
a real woman in real circumstances, and we are utterly impressed by the
realism with which she faces life. There is an extra poignancy when the
death rate of mother and/or child in those days is considered.
