My Lovely But But-a-Butinski by Roy Conant

As I breathe
My as yet
Half spoken
Paean to her
Perfection
Caused pause
To wreathe
Her crown in
Golden down
Consummate
Coronal tiara
Aestrous
Emerald
Aura

But
But “but?”
Yes “but!”
Because
She alone appends
At the pause
Intones
“But?”
As if my finish
Should diminish
She whose golden crown
As I breathe
Ascends and
Could never
Descend –
I commend
My Lovely
But
But-a-Butinsky
