2) I wish I were

I wish I were….

an innocent child, innate-free in smiling
to suck the milk of faith in Mother’s breasts
and play with the priceless toy of her vision;

a sportive boy, new and smart in schooling,
to learn the secret beats of Nature’s pulse
and master the vast tracts of tricky thoughts;

a larking lover, proud in hearty darting,
to set the ship of hearts on sea of marriage
with Reason’s crown of lustrous beams;

a strong-heeled soldier, steady in chasing foes,
to slay the serpent of floating dreams and fears
and gain the wondrous world of nectar sweets;

a righteous justice, bright in decree-passing,
to tear and wear away the wand of evil race
and meet the weak and meek with mercy’s feats;

a dangling old man, day-wearied but daring,
to toss his body in the winding breeze of ease
and fly into soothing flames of fancied heirs;

a ripe man laughing, with a rich mind dreaming,
to make a merchandise in the earthly Paradise
and taste the ripest fruit of eternal joy and bliss.
