When observing a perfectly drawn circle
upon a plane surface at an angle
That is less than perpendicular
To the plane of the surface, and in such case where
The angular line of sight forms what appears
To the observer to be an oval,
Is it an oval, or a circle that the observer sees?
If not (a) why does it look like an oval, and (b)
What makes it to be or not to be an oval?
Is what is perceived, real?
Is an illusion real?

Very good question, maybe illusions are true….This is a philosophical question : do our senses show us the truth ? Thank you for the mathematical digression too…
Art — did you ever see the movie “Black Robe?” There’s a great scene in there in which a Huron has a vision of the place he will die and then a few days later while canoeing he sees the Tipi of his vision and leaves to die — for some Native Americans (and other cultures) dreams were considered more real than reality. Great movie — came out about the same time as the sacharin Dances with wolves.
Is an illusion, really an illusion or an alternate reality?
Thanks for the comment, Roy. I must see the movie. I’ll likely something to say afterward.

And Hi, yann. I thought you might like the little allusions to mathematical concepts. It was a spontaneous idea that emerged as I watched kiddy videos with little Dennis the menace!

I dreamed this up while watching a “shapes and colors” video with the little nephew. Feel free to read and/or ignore if you prefer.
