roy- when the hell are you getting back? i cant imagine you have nothing to say - not even agreeing to disagree? that is tragic…
i did take a lot of liberties of course with your writing - but that is allowed - its called poetic license - given esp. to poets to make or not to make sense as he/she pleases - that’s the award we get for writing poetry - some convert it to punishment but that’s another story - some punish not themselves but others - by being deliberately obscure or asking riddles - i’m happy to say i dont fall in that category - i’m not sure about the others.
but come on roy its not all that bad as not to merit even a little attention - being abandoned by art is bad enough - hope i wont really be abandoned by art though - or by you - hope you’re not miffed - i’m using a milder term.
my personal fav. is the mole one! i think that’s super & falls so well with existential thought! tho you had no such thoughts when you wrote it
& all those other lines about affirming life as opposed to dying - inspite of it - & your take on existentialism - & the way you think & write actually reveals an affinity - does it not? eistentialism is after all not a dirty word - it boasts of great writers/philosophers/novelists/poets.
there is such a diachotomy between the believers & not believers & similarity.
if i relate this concept to my own country it works on two levels: on one hand every stone leaf tree flower - everything in nature or man-made is bursting with meaning - pregnant with meaning! i mean everything is worshipped here - the question of meaninglessness does not arise.
on the other hand the true sages monks holy men spiritualists - teach us that life has no meaning - it is a myth - a dream - dont get tied down by its illusions neither by religion nor temples nor rituals - seek further - seek deeper - there’s more to life than life.
some do go on to say - perform your actions/duties to the best of your abilities - give life your best shot - but remain detached - your thirst for that elusive higher goal should never be quenched - if you seek that from this world - you’ll be disappointed.
this world at its best is a bit absurd!
that’s why we take to existentialism like a duck.
to my mind the best things about these concepts whether existentialism or love - the exploration & debate can never end. the more philosophies & explanations the greater the search.
roy i dont know from where & how i deviated from there to here - all i wanted to say was when the hell can i be honored by your esteem comments?
this one here is my second fav. what’s existentialist about the poem you might ask - well ask!!
I have been derelict but promise to return soon — But, it somehow seems a little narcissistic for me to admire my words, even when they have been so magically transformed! However, I will as soon as I find my mirror….
o do admire - you can admire it as my work! i really think all of them turned out well - my only problem is how do i post them on the poetry sites where they’ll be a whole lot of admiration - i know for sure.
a lot of explanation will be required: from prose to poetry in roy’s words - a fellow poet - whose discussions in prose makes for excellent poetry - or some such stuff! you see my problem. & then there’s copyright - if i post them as mine - that will be false.
the analogy in the last stanza is original? dont know why i feel i’ve read it somewhere - ofcourse maybe someone wrote something similar - that’s possible - i cant see you quoting without giving credit - sorry for doubting - but it is very brilliant - do find the mirror fast.
Oh, i’ve taken the final verse and converted it into a poem of my own — In fact, now I’m thinking there may be other gems among my comments awaiting a jeweler’s tools. Thanks for the wake up call — And, at risk of seeming arrogant, I must say I do believe most of what you say I said I said I said indeed — I’ve always known that I have a way with words, but sometimes do need to be reminded that what I say is, if often less than, sometimes more than mundane. Thank you!
