My old 8000 series Braun got left in a hotel room, so I figured I'd upgrade. However, this model does not shave my beard as well as the older model. My beard hairs grown in all directions and lay very flat. The Pulsonic had a tendency to yank them out, and it took pass after pass to get an area shaved clean. I finally gave it to my Dad (he's got a more normal beard and it works fine for him) and just bought a 8985 model, which works great.
So, be forewarned--this shaver might not work well for you, and it's NON-RETURNABLE.
However, it's very well made and seems to work great for my father, so I feel I need to give it four stars.
Rating:  - Braun delivers
I purchased the Braun Pulsonic model 9595 on Amazon for $199.99 a little over a week ago (it apppears the name has changed to 790cc in the interim). I am also an owner of the Braun model 7680 for comparison. I believe that the major improvement from my perspective (so far) is that the shaver operates more smoothly, resulting in less/no irritation compared to the 7680. My perception is that the shave is also nominally faster, closer and more comfortable ergonomically. It also may be a bit lighter in weight.
To address some of the negative comments: The shaver is louder than my previous model, as is the cleaner, but not enough to bother me (and the cleaner seems to make noise for a shorter duration, at least in the eco mode, which is the only mode used to-date). As far as the cost of using the cleaner, I think it is worthwhile and have found that cleaning/tapping hairs out of the shaver head before using the cleaning system results in less contamination of the fluid and extends the life significantly. I expect that washing the head assembly under the faucet prior to using the cleaning system would result in a similar savings.
Rating: - As close as a blade
The shaver cuts nearly as close as a blade and does not irritate the skin. I have been using electric razors for over 20 years (mostly Norelcos) and this shaver gives the closest shave of all. It is a little noisy and has considerable vibration compared to the Norelcos. The hygene indicator and battery level indicator is nice. The automatic cleaning level selection works well also.
Rating: - Over all good results
Nice shaving results- best I ever had in my last 20 years of machine shaving. nice design.
Disadvantages:
Can't shave under shower (although can be rinsed in water)
