Rating: - Just Short of Greatness
I've owned this unit for about a month now and feel like I'm fairly conversant with how the player works. First of all, the picture quality and sound quality are great. It's unlike anything I've ever seen. I've had some upconverting DVD players, and the difference is there and highly noticeable. Some negatives: resuming a movie from the middle is pretty much impossible for whatever reason. I press stop, power off the player while it's in resume, turn it back on and it isn't where it was. Instead, ... Read More
Rating: - Great Entrance to Blu Ray!
I bought this during a sale as my first Blu Ray player and I'm glad I did. Blu Ray is definitely worth it. Watching The Hunt for Red October I see details with the clarity that I didn't on regular DVD. The sound is also much better than DVD quality.
The setup on this player is extremely simple with just connecting it to the TV via an HDMI cable, as is adding features via firmware updates from the Samsung web site. Initially I had problems with disc playback but I burned the firmware update ... Read More
Rating: - I like it!
The only thing that I miss is that the eject and control switches do not have the background blue light. Otherwise, the picture and sound are wonderful! Everyone talks about the picture, but I now hear things that were not apparent before. I have it hooked to the 61" Samsung LED rear projection set and all is good. It even has this neat feature that if I have the TV set to the dish, and I put a DVD in, it switches the TV by itself! Also I'd like to say something about Amazon.com, these people are great. ... Rating: - Slow and audio problems
I bought this model because I wanted to match it with the Samsung HDTV my mom bought. The exterior is very nice, the java-driven menus are too slow in responding to remote button input. Takes forever to process a command. The audio cuts out on regular DVDs intermittently while the video keeps playing smoothly. The Blu-ray movies look and sound as they should. My overall review on this model is in the middle, neutral.
Rating: - Worked great until Samsung Broke it
I could write a novel on my issues with Samsung and their qualiy control, but I'll keep this to the point.
I had the 1500 (also a 1400 but it broke the first week) since May 28th. Worked pretty well until the firmware update. After the update, I lost TrueHD audio (internal decoding or bitstreaming) and Standard DVD playback become impossible. I couldn't play a single regular DVD no matter what I tried. BD discs that have TrueHD tracks started flaking out with audio drops and pauses also. ... Read More
