I have been using Zyrtec for allergies for about a year and it works very well. It was very expensive when it was prescription only. Now, it seems that the OTC status has made the costs very competitive. How can the drug companies charge so much for prescriptions?

Zyrtec works well for me. Its effect lasts 24 hours, often longer. Happily, it recently became available over the counter. An interesting sidelight on the effectiveness of our health system: now that my insurance company no longer covers half of the cost, I actually pay less per tablet: I no longer must see my GP to get the prescription, and the cost per tablet is less, too.
