About Swiss Army Knives In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and 'inox,' or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

Rating: - A great idea for a present, complete with a gift box!
Have looked at this Victorinox Swiss Army Explorer with Collectible Gift Box so many times before, always trying to find some justification for getting it... but in this case, it's for a gift. Already have a number of these fine Victorinox products, including the Victorinox Swiss Army Champion Plus, which sits in my camera bag, ready to go at all times. It's perhaps one of the best all-around tools that a pro or amateur photographer could look for as far as versatility goes.

Rating: - Quinticential pocket knife-Fantastic!
I have owned various incarnations of Victorinox Swiss Army knives for almost 3 decades. I think I am on my fourth now. Two lost and one given away. It lives in the pocket of my jeans every single day.
They change the model names and features around from year to year.
The Explorer is my current favorite and is essentially THE knife I have owned for all these years.
One of the major qualifying elements for me is the Phillips Head screwdriver, which I use regularly. Many of victorinox's ... Read More
Rating: - A good value if purchased as a combo
The price for this one is pretty good if you purchase it with another knife to get free shipping. Can't say much about the Explorer - its a nice little knife. The shield case looks metal, but is cheap plastic. I could have done without it.
Rating: - Its there when you need it!
Swiss Army knife is so useful and its small and compact it fits into my lil black purse...can't go wrong...
Rating: - Wonderful pocket tool
I bought this for my 6 year old. She was admiring my 25 year old Climber knife on when I showed her the other knives she wanted one with a magnifier glass. The price was unbeatable at twenty bucks. This knife sell for forty dollars every where else. I wish the box was tin instead of painted plastic.
