Yes, this little machine has definitely improved my sleep almost from day one. I read another review that stated that you can hear a motor hum in addition to the "white noise" sound - it is true. So, I use the machine on full sound loudness, which drowns out the motor hum. Someone who wants a quieter white noise might have to put up with the motor hum, but some might not find that sound objectionable ... All in all, I am pleased with the product.

My wife wanted a white noise generator to drown out the early-rising birds outside our bedroom window. So I bought a SleepMate 580A about a month ago. It does cover-up the bird sounds. But as other reviewers have noted, it's quite loud - if I don't use earplugs, I wake in the morning with ringing in my ears. But my real dissatisfaction is that within the nice whooshing white noise, you can distinctly hear the hum of the fan motor (60-cycle hum). Maybe my unit is defective, or maybe I'm more ... Read More

I absolutely love this item. I bought my first one 10 years ago, and spilled soda on it (sadly) and didn't waste a second replacing it.
Yes, a fan or a humidifier helps too, but really, I like that this can be used in all kinds of weather- and it travels so well!
The biggest thing I can say about it is that I love that it has a real motor- it's not a "loop" of prerecorded sounds. I can ALWAYS hear that little glitch when the loop starts over again- so annoying. The marpac ... Read More

This is an awesome product! I was a little leery at first, but from the first night I plugged it in, my toddler girl slept PEACEFULLY! I would definitely recommend this product!!!!
