In the early 1970s musical films based on classic novels, and "Presented by Reader's Digest," were made like every year: "Tom Sawyer" in 1973; "Huckleberry Finn" in 1974 and "The Old Curiosity Shop" in 1975. Probably the filmmakers still remembered "Oliver!" (1968) and "Scrooge" (1970) both based on Dickens.
