The Lifetime 1529 portable basketball system features a 50 inch shatter guard fusion backboard, Slam-It basketball rim and a 27 gallon base. The basketball system also features a Speed Shift adjustment system which allows you to easily adjust the basketball goal from 8 - 10 feet. Simply squeeze the handle and the counter balance springs help to raise or lower the basketball hoop height so that players of any age can the game at their level.

Lifetime 1529 Portable Basketball Goal System features a large 50-inch Shatter Guard fusion backboard that is made of Makrolon polycarbonate, making it virtually unbreakable and many times stronger than acrylic. The black hammertone steel, three piece, three inch round quick-adjust pole system allows you to lower the rim height from eight to ten feet in six inch increments. Players of any age or skill can enjoy the game at their level. The orange Slam-It rim features double compression springs that provide spring-back action. This system is built for competitive play with welded-steel net hooks and an all-weather nylon net. And the 27-gallon portable base fills easily with water or sand to provide a stable foundation, and rolls easily on its own wheels to your desired location.
Portable basketball systems depend on a base filled with sand or water for stability. Although it will take up more space than an in-ground system, the portable base rolls on wheels, allowing players to position the basketball system in the desired location (and also allowing storage in a garage). I bought this sytem couple of weeks ago. It looks cheap when it arrived, especially the plastic base. I re-enforced with some iron rod. Still, two weeks after its erection. it was blown down by a gust of wind. The base folded. I live in Philly, it is not a high wind area.
My advise will be: Don't buy Lifetime. Period.
Their product looks nice on Amazon. They are actually cheaply designed.

This system is very sylish and easy to use (the height adjustment). It took some time to put together and at times the instructions took a second or third glance. Luckily some of the diagrams for the hardware is drawn in "atcual size" so it makes it easier to match up. I had all the tools required already in my toolbox. This took about three hours for a reasonably competent male to put together. The instructions are better than many I have dealt with, but there are confusing parts. The hardest part was the spring mechanism. Unless you have good upper body strength it will take two people to assemble.

I was concerned about quality because this was $50 cheaper than a similar basketball hoop by the same manufacturer at a local store. However, all the parts were first rate, assembly was pretty easy - took about 3 hours. When you shoot a basketball at this unit, it has the sound of a high quality system that is well designed. It handles shots from every angle well and we are generally happy with this product. I do have some fair criticisms of Lifetime, but that did not keep me from giving this basketball hoop system a five star.
