I bought this fan because my 7 year old vornado started making some noise when I tried to angle it up, and we needed a fan (we have an old house and the central air just doesn't do much upstairs). This fan is really great. It moves the air very well, and pushes the cold air up to the second floor. In fact, we now have the thermostat set 4 degrees higher when we go to sleep, and it is just fine. This is my second Vornado fan like this and it is absolutely wonderful. It moves the air like no other. I put it in front of an open door and it sucks air from outside and moves it through the house. It has cut down considerable on my air conditioner usage during the early morning and late evening hours.

WOW...I would give this 10 stars if it were available. Simply the hardest blowing fan you can buy!!!

Vornado 783B Fan has the three features that I was seeking in a fan:
1) elevated floor stand with small footprint and wide direction adjustment
2) three speeds with high volume capability
3) relatively quiet
This fan fulfills these requirements perfectly.

The Vornado 783B looks nice and has some power to it; however, it's not "whisper quiet" as advertised. It's about as quiet as any other fan when it's on the lowest speed; but it gets louder as you get to medium and REALLY loud (can't use it if I'm trying to talk to someone in the same room) on high speed. Also, it's not very well balanced: it's quite easy to tip over forward... my dog can bump into it and knock it down.
