Holly Hobbie & Friends - Surprise Party is an hour-long animated feature starring Holly Hobbie's great-granddaughter, Holly, who is a modern woman in the making. Dressing in jeans, and sporting long, permed hair and a cool bike, Holly is a far cry from her homely relative who has long been adored for her country-style calico dresses and her ability to bake great cakes. In this episode, Holly is invited to her Aunt's birthday party, so she wants to learn how to make a cake. She takes baking lessons, in between nightly excursions during which she cuts fake crop circles in the neighbor's corn patch to trick her little brother into believing in aliens. Pranks continue until a guilt-ridden Holly confesses her dishonesty to Robbie, her brother, and her mother. As Holly seeks familial harmony and a sense of domesticity, she finds a treasure chest containing her great-grandma's memorabilia. Holly's rebellious feelings melt away as she discovers that her elder Holly also loved to party. In the end, the cake she makes is awesome and Holly is proud of both her heritage and of herself. Surprise Party seems made for little girls whose use of technology sets them apart from previous generations, but ladies who grew up with the original Holly Hobbie will prefer her humble pioneer look as a reminder of how much times have changed. Great video for kids. My three year old loves them. Nothing bad in them, and teaches a great, moral lesson.

We saw the Holly Hobbie Christmas special on Nick Jr. in December and my four-year-old enjoyed it so much that I bought her this DVD. She absolutely loves it and wants to watch it every day. The story is rather simple - Holly wants to throw a surprise party for her Aunt Jessie. But there's a cute part that explains that this Holly is the great-granddaughter of the original Holly Hobbie that I remember from my childhood. My grandaughter really liked this dvd. She watches it over and over and has even learned all the songs.

My 4 year old son has been watching this movie over and over again since last March. It's cute, it teaches them about respecting their friends and others. It's got a kind of cute, a little annoying song but nothing too annoying for the parents. Great little movie.

My almost 5 year old twin daughters love this movie....and the surprise was that I actually liked it too. The characters are entertaining and likeable. The story-line is well put together with a lot of life lessons interwoven. Values such as respect, honesty, loyalty, tolerance and friendship are taught yet don't come off as being preachy. I just wish the producers would put out more Holly Hobbie movies.
