Editorial Review:

Description:
'Tis the season for love, laughter, and one of the most cherished stories of all time! Join Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and all the hilarious Muppets in this merry, magical version of Charles Dickens' classic tale. Academy Award(R) winner Michael Caine (Best Supporting Actor, 2000, THE CIDER HOUSE RULES; 1987, HANNAH AND HER SISTERS) gives a performance that's anything but 'bah, humbug!' as greedy, penny-pinching Ebenezer Scrooge. One fateful Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Together with kind, humble Bob Cratchit (Kermit the Frog) and his family, the Spirits open Scrooge's eyes -- and his heart -- to the true meaning of Christmas. Filled with original music and dazzling special effects, this restored and remastered 50th Anniversary Edition of THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL will become a holiday tradition your family will treasure all the days of the year.~~(C) The Muppets Holding Company, LLC and BVHE. Amazon.com:
Brian Henson directs his late father's creations in the Charles Dickens classic, the best known (and most oft-filmed) Christmas story of all time. Michael Caine plays the old miser Scrooge with Kermit as his long-suffering but ever-hopeful employee Bob Cratchit, Miss Piggy as Cratchit's wife, and a host of Muppets (including the Great Gonzo as an unlikely Charles Dickens) taking other primary roles in this bright, playful adaptation of the somber tale. Or at least it starts brightly enough--the anarchic humor soon settles into mirthful memories and a sense of melancholy as the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future take Scrooge on a journey of his lonely, wasted life. Michael Caine makes a wonderful Scrooge, delightfully rediscovering the meaning of life as fantastic creations from Henson's Creature Shop (developed specially for this film) take the reins as the three ghosts. While the odd mix of offbeat humor and somber drama undercuts the power of Dickens's drama, this kid-friendly retelling makes an excellent family drama that adults and children alike can enjoy. --Sean Axmaker

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Would be 5 stars with the missing song!
This is an amazing rendition of the classic "A Christmas Carol" story, with an incredible performance from Michael Caine. Every time I watch it, as an adult, I get something new out of it. And the old version, with the sad song included, was enough to make a grown man cry (a true Grinch-like story that happened at my house!).

I, too, am wistfully wishing that Disney would release a ***COMPLETE***, WIDESCREEN version of this incredible classic. I bet they'd be shocked at how many ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A feast of festive fun!
"Christmas is a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely" --Charles Dickens.

Attempting to celebrate Christmas without watching at least ONE adaptation of this Dickens classic is a bit like trying to play snooker in black and white. Each year I try to watch one 'serious' adaptation (usually the 1951 Alastair Sim classic) and also one parody. ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Perfect Movie!
100 Snazzes on the 100 point Snazz-o-Scale. Perfection!

Please note this is my review on the movie itself, not any of it's Home Video Releases. I see there is much disappointment about the DVDs. I have it on good old VHS, which still works and still has "Love is Gone."

A Muppet Christmas Carol is a superb adaption of the Dicken's Classic. Michael Caine plays Ebenezer Scrooge. There are a few other humans, particularly Scrooge's nephew Fred, but almost all the other cast are played ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Product good but delivery very late
Happy with the product when it arrived, but it arrived a week after the scheduled time.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - MUST see movie of the Season
My all-time favorite Christmas movie. It's my favorite version of the Christmas Carol--forget "live" actors. And the Scrooge in this one is the best of any I've seen.
