This electric kettle heats up to 1.7 liters of water for coffee, tea, or instant soup without requiring the use of a stove. The round plastic base plugs into any standard outlet and gets water boiling in no time with its 1,500 watts of power. When water has boiled, a safety mechanism turns the unit off and prevents the kettle from boiling dry. For easy lifting and serving, the kettle rotates 360 degrees on the base and travels cord-free from counter to table for pouring. While the kettle's brushed stainless-steel exterior gets very hot during boiling, the plastic handle and knob on the removable lid safeguard against burns by staying cool. A drip-free spout keeps water from splashing and scalding and an anti-scale mesh filter traps lime and calcium particles (found in hard water) before they end up in a teacup. A clear water-level window conveniently shows how much water is left in the kettle. For long-term performance, the kettle's heating element is concealed, which keeps mineral deposits to a minimum and makes cleaning easier. This is the first time I've ever checked reviews on a product that I actually own. I was going to buy another one for our church nursery and decided to glance at the reviews just for fun. Gives me some perspective on other products that I dismiss because of some scathing reviews.

Rating:  - Not very convenient, poor quality
I bought this to replace an old plastic kettle that was working fine, being 5 years old.
First disappointment was that there were plastic parts in contact with water, although I understand, this is common.
The kettle turned out to be less convenient, compared to the one I had before:
1) You can only use it to boil largish quantities of water, which then take longer. If you just want one cup in a hurry, you are out of luck.

Rating: - 3 years old and still great
I received this kettle as a gift 3 years ago, and it still works as well as it did when I got it - it's never had problems. Boils very quickly, holds a good amount of water, and works equally well with different water levels. My friend bought a different kettle after liking mine, and it almost boils over if you overfill it.
Rating: - Roomy But Noisy
I bought this Hamilton Beach electric kettle to replace one that died. It's big and holds lots of water for multiple servings--good. It's noisy and because of the narrow bottom, kinda slow to heat--bad. So far it's been reliable but it's just more of the same cheap made-in-China stuff we can't seem to get away from anymore--very thin metal, cheap stainless veneer, low quality plastic base. I predict this kettle will last a couple years, like the last one. At least it looks pretty sitting on the countertop.

We used to microwave a lot of cups and bowls for tea, coffee, oatmeal -- no more!! One of the best things about the kettle is that you can pick it right up off of its charging base, and set it down anywhere you want on the counter. Nice style; simple, touch-of-a button use. We like the balance in the handle when lifting it, too. Actually got an extra as a present for family.
When it broke, we contacted Hamilton Beach, and their customer service was very accomodating for a replacement, too.
