Rooibos, a pure, natural, caffeine-free herbal tea, rich in antioxidants, is made by Numi. Numi was founded by a brother/sister team for whom making tea is a labor of love.
Known as the 'Miracle Tea,' Rooibos is indigenous to the Cederberg mountain high desert region in the western Cape of South Africa; the only place in the world it's grown. This small, leguminous shrub has needle-like leaves, fine stems, and tiny yellow flowers. Sun-dried, Rooibos is processed like traditional teas.
Teasan, derived from the French, tisane, is Numi's term for a brewed herbal beverage with no tea leaves. Rooibos has no additives, preservatives or colourounts, has a light vanilla scent and yields a rich orange brew.
Rooibos' health benefits are numerous. In-vitro tests in Japan show that it exhibits anti-mutagenic properties and retards growth of certain tumors. Rooibos aids in relieving stomach and indigestive problems, benefits the management of allergies and exhibits anti-viral activity. Because Rooibos contains very little tannin, it doesn't impair iron and protein absorption in the body. It actually contains iron, potassium, and copper and supplements the daily intake of calcium, manganese, and fluoride. It also contains zinc, which helps promote healthy skin and enhances a healthy nervous system. And, of course, it does what a good cup of tea should do- soothe. Rooibos is a healthy alternative to black teas. It is naturally caffeine-free and loaded with antioxidants--as much as green tea. This is a wonderfully tasty rooibos with a rich,almost caramel taste when drunk with cream. Brew for 20 minutes or more to make a stronger brew--it never gets bitter like black tea.
