Description: This modern adaptation of the holiday classic casts Barbie in two roles, Clara and the Sugarplum Princess, as she embarks on a musical fantasy adventure for girls of all ages. New York City Ballet's Peter Martins choreographed this wonderful animated film, with music by The London Symphony Orchestra, and featuring the voice of Tim Curry as the Mouse King.
Amazon.com: Look who became a star. Barbie comes to life in this computer-animated Christmas tale that quite naturally takes the longtime favorite doll into a new realm. The plot is a slight variation on the traditional ballet based on Tchaikovsky's music. Instead of being in an open-ended dream, Barbie and her escort, the Nutcracker (soon to be Ken, natch), are on an adventurous quest. Along the way there are more creatures and derring-do than in the original. The sole known voice talent, Tim Curry, has a good old time as the Mouse King, and the animated dancing is gracefully adapted from New York City Ballet choreography. A few clever characters, bright animation, and wonderful music should entrance any Barbie fans ages 3 to 9. The 78-minute feature debuted on video shortly before playing on CBS in 2001. --Doug Thomas

Rating: - Can't go wrong with Barbie princess movies
I ordered this Barbie movie for my 3 year old daughter for Christmas. She loves Barbie movies. I can't wait to sit down and watch it with her.
Rating: - fantastic version
I was skeptical when my daughter brought this home from the library, but it's such a family favorite, we ordered our own copy. The music (from the London Symphony Orchestra) is first rate. The story adaptation, a multilayered storyline featuring Barbie and little sister Kelly, is by turns exciting and moving. The acting surpassed my expectations. Tim Curry is sinister and menacing (but not too scary for little kids) as the evil Mouse King. I'd recommend this movie for viewers of all ages. We watch ... Read More

I absolutely love all of Barbie's movies. I got this movie when I was 10, now I'm 19 and I still love it! In fact I love it so much I have since collected all 13 Barbie movies and am waiting for Barbie in a Christmas Carol. Barbie as The Princess and the Pauper is by far my fave! ^_^ You must watch them all!
Rating: - Who Knew!
My daughter is obsessed with ballet and The Barbie Nutcracker is one of her favorite videos. She can now hear the music on classical radio and identify which part of The Nutcracker it is from. Amazing. I had no idea how good the Barbie videos where. The music is beautiful and they are really wonderful to watch - even for adults. Which is nice when you have to watch them over and over and over..........
Rating: - Barbie in the Nutcracker
My daugther love it, this was the only one missing from her collection of Barbie DVD. They are very well made and a lot less violent then other children films. At least those don't give her bad dreams she says.
A happy Mother
