Product Description: With the Rosetta Stone Thai Personal Edition Level 1, you have the same new language-instruction techniques at your disposal that the U.S. State Dept, the Peace Corps and NASA use!
Amazon.com Product Description: Learn a new language with the award-winning method used by the U.S. State Department to train diplomats. Proven effective by NASA astronauts, Peace Corps volunteers, and millions of students worldwide, the Rosetta Stone Language Library teaches new languages faster and easier than ever before.
We all learn our childhood language by associating new words and phrases with the world around us. The Rosetta Stone method replicates this process by presenting vivid, real-life images to convey the meaning of each new phrase. Instead of translating, memorizing, and studying rules of grammar, you actually learn to think in the new language. Vocabulary and grammar are integrated systematically, leading to everyday proficiency.
The Rosetta Stone Level I program offers a comprehensive course of study for beginning learners, leading to intermediate proficiency. The program contains over 3,500 real-life images and phrases in 92 lessons and more than 250 hours of mastery instruction in listening comprehension, reading, speaking, and writing. Systematic structure teaches vocabulary and grammar naturally, without lists and drills. There are reviews, exercises, and tests for every lesson with automated tutorials throughout the program. (Ages 6 and older)

Rating: - This is the way to learn a new language.....
I live in Thailand and have tried various phrase books, language media, as well as a Thai-English dictionary (which I still use for reference) and feel the need to give RossettaStone its just due. After reading some of the other reviews I still could not understand what the problem was. RossettaStone does not use translation (which is the worst way to learn a new language) but instead uses a "mothers tongue" or acquisition approach. This approach may take some getting used to but once the learner ... Read More

I own the product and am currently at lesson 10 (out of 92). It seems fairly intuitive, though I have noticed the bugs pointed out by other reviewers.
I would suggest trying the online demo before you decide to buy this. You can do lessons 1 and 2 for free using the online version at the rosetta stone website.
I think the users who have complained about the general teaching method may not have "got it" completely. The voice-over is not supposed to perfectly describe the ... Read More

I have been learning the Thai language for just over 6 months now. I started off with websites, learning basic things about the language and a few phrases. Then I got this course hoping to become proficient in the language. Unfortunately I discovered that it's largely useless for the following reasons:
1) It has automated exercises, but doesn't highlight the words as they are being said. If you have no idea of how the Thai alphabet works, the writing on the pictures is almost useless. ... Read More

When I first used "Rosetta Stone Thai," I was very disappointed. To quote another reviewer, "$180.00 guessing game." But I gave it a chance on account of how expensive it is. I used it everyday for a week. That was enough for me. I put it away and didn't touch it again for another year and a half.
The software basically tells you a phrase in Thai. It shows a selection of 4 pictures. One of which, the phrase is describing. You have to pick the right picture. There are several variations of ... Read More

I have lived in Thailand for a year and a half now (Peace Corps) and speak a decent level of Thai. I seem to be understood fairly well in Central Thailand but I have difficulties in my assigned region in Isaan (mostly because they make little effort to listen to someone who is obviously not a native speaker. They prefer I eat my som tam and tell them it is arroy or sap u). They do this with me when I speak Isaan as well which I have also learned quite a bit of. Anyone can get the amusing chuckle ...
