Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
It's in the Water is a charming little indie set in the sleepy, conservative Southern town of Azalea Springs. When an AIDS hospice opens up, the local homophobes go up in arms, polarizing the community. The heart of the movie, though, is the story of Alex, our listlessly married heroine who begins to have second thoughts about her orientation. (There is also a very slight 'comic' subplot involving a rumor that drinking the local water turns people gay. Ignore it.) While Alex's discovery process is a rather quick one due to the constraints of movie timing, it is well handled, including an affectionate sequence during which Alex watches the entire Lesbian Film Canon. While the straight characters tend to be rather broadly drawn, It's in the Water is a gentle film at heart and well worth an evening. The DVD edition includes commentary by the director and leading actresses that is both funny and interesting--in particular the discussion of what it was like for two straight actresses to play their first gay love scene. --Ali Davis

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Down home fun.
By the way the ratings are shaking out it seems you either love or hate this film. I loved it. I read this was the first film Kelli Herd made so I'm impressed. I think it was done well for a first effort. There's nothing extravagant about it and the actors seem to be local Texas talent but they do a great job. The only actor who bothered me a bit was the male lead whose delivery seemed flat most of the time. The dialogue between the women felt authentic and the relationship didn't feel rushed. ... I loved this movie. Both lead characters have tons of chemistry alone or together. This movie is over ten years old having been made in 1996.I feel that it is well ahead of the other movies made during that time frame.Lots of humor thrown in.Don't be in the mood for a serious movie when you watch this.Try to have fun with it and see the humor in not only the acting but the scenery and the clothing.Don't forget this was made independantly (which means only one camera was used)thus you will see a few bloopers. The ... Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - The problem with indies
Although I, too, appreciated the story and the message which this film sent, I couldn't help but think about one of the sad facts of "indie" GLTB film making, i.e., indie = not very well made. "In the Water" basically could have used a way, WAY more competent screenwriter, a way, WAY more incisive director, and with a few exceptions, way, way, WAY more talented actors, as opposed to those who are graduates of the Indie Filmmaking School of Hysterical Overacting. As it happened, I watched "Water" on the same ... Read More

"It's in the Water" is fun, lots of fun. Sure the premise is ridiculous but the film is a delight and makes no pretense at being any more than it is--a feel good movie.
In the small southern town of Azalea Springs, the country club set is the ruling class. Every woman must belong to the League and big hair is still the favorite of the luncheon set and only hairdressers and interior decorators are ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Is it in the Water?
This is an excellent movie to share on movie night with friends. The movie set in a small Texas town is full of wonderful, interesting people. The characters, although exagerated in some cases,(this is a spoof) make for an interesting ride into the world of prejudice, irrational thinking,or being a hypocrite. Well, worth watching...Keri Jo Chapman and Teresa Garrett are hot.
