Editorial Review:
Amazon.com: The gang that created Airplane and The Naked Gun sets its sights on Top Gun in this often hilarious spoof starring Charlie Sheen, who previously only inspired laughs with his personal life. He plays Topper Harley, a fighter pilot with an ax to grind: clearing the family name. He gets involved in a relationship with Valerie Golino, a woman with an unusually talented stomach. But his mission is to avenge his father. Lloyd Bridges, late in his career, revealed an aptitude for this kind of silliness, here as a commander who is both incredibly dim and delightfully accident prone. Directed by Jim Abrahams, the film makes fun of a variety of other films as well, from Dances with Wolves to The Fabulous Baker Boys. It was so successful that they all returned in the sequel, Hot Shots! Part Deux. --Marshall Fine

Rating: - Hot Shots classic movie DVD
This classic comedy is so much fun it should be illegal as a controlled substance. Dropping a bomb on Saddam Hussein's crotch?!? Now THAT is downright hostile but also laugh-out-loud funny. Sheen's comic timing is great, and so is that of dotty old Lloyd Bridges. Both the DVD and the seller rate A+A+A+A+.
Rating: - A Benchmark for Spoofs
No spoof does it quite like this anymore. Hot Shots is a megaload of witty jokes that is easily taken for granted by most critics. Scripting for spoofs has changed dramatically overtime. Nowadays it seems as if these spoofs are written over the weekend. Back in the 90's people put a lot more time and effort into developing a winning comedy. If you watch the special features, you will find that each actor really gave solid effort to the film. The all-star cast does not have a weak spot at all. ... Read More
Rating: - Jim Abrams strikes again!
Lloyd Bridges found a new niche at the end of his career and it is a great one to have!! He is priceless in yet another Abrams spoof of Top Gun movies! Get the buttered popcorn and a mug of Coca Cola and get control of the remote! If you love the Abrams/Zucker spoofs, get this one too!!
Rating: - Great money.... woops I mean it's Very funny
There are so many movies like Hot Shots, but this DVD is well worth the price. I would suggest everyone getting it. It's just a funny spoof of a whole bunch of movies. This Hot Shots movie is better then Hot Shots! Part Deux by the way.
Rating: - Good, But Not As Enjoyable As Part Deux
This "Top Gun" spoof gets mixed emotions for me. Charlie Sheen, Cary Elwes and Lloyd Bridges are definitely the high points of the film, they are hilarious! So is this film, but towards the end during the last battle scene it gets dull. This is supposed to be a comedy, but they leave that for an almost serious battle sequence with just little gags thrown in every now and then. When you are laughing hard most of the time, you notice when the film drags. My personal favorite part is the wall eye vision. ... Read More
