The law of diminishing returns: It's the law--obey it! Someone should have posted that sign on the set of this, the third sequel to the film based on the DC Comics superhero. The 'IV' in the title refers to medical supplies needed to resuscitate this anemic retread. This one reportedly was a pet project of actor Christopher Reeve, whose career seemed to flounder whenever he tried a role minus the blue underwear and red cape. Before agreeing to don the suit one more time, he insisted on a script that preached nuclear disarmament. So, in this film, Superman rounds up all the missiles and warheads and flings them into outer space. Which still leaves him to contend with Lex Luthor, who has a secret weapon: Nuclear Man. Yawn. Having pushed the envelope of special effects in the first film, it seemed as if the filmmakers simply stopped trying with this one. --Marshall Fine

i've enjoyed it very much; it was better than III. a lot of crucial scenes were cut out in 4. i hope they'll release a special edition in the future. i still want to see those scenes placed into the movie. there were a lot of flying sequences that were nice. Superman the movie 1978 will be 30 years old. enjoy. i still miss c. reeve.

Superman IV: The Quest for Peace is a decent film that has good morals to its story. Unfortunately, the Golan-Globus decided to cut back on just about every thing and doomed Superman IV to a bad box office take making it the lowest grossing Superman film in the Christopher Reeve franchise.

Rating: - Great but Missing Something
I found Superman IV an improvement over Superman III. In 3, it's pretty much about Pryor's character than Reeve (don't get me wrong though, he did a great job). But the character just punches a few buttons when he's training and voila! He finds a hidden talent. That's not normal, you either know you have it or you don't. I think the most frustrating thing about this movie is that it could have been so much better. If you look at the movie in the context of the time in which it was created, late 80's when their really was a nuclear arms race, this movie could have really done a lot to help children understand the desperate need to handle this nuclear problem. SUPERMAN 4, THE QUEST FOR PEACE wasn't a bad idea. Chris Reeve really wanted to make a statement about nuclear weapons. Problem is, he literally stands there and makes his statement. Now, where do we go from here?
