The last year of the Ebersol era was marked by brilliance. The show brought on Billy Crystal, Martin Short, and two of the three members of Spinal Tap (Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer), the final one (Michael McKean) would join the cast a decade later. In 1984 Billy Crystal and Martin Short hit SNL and made comedy history. Eddie Murphy also shows up to deliver some hardcore lauphs but this was after his big two year success on the show as the main star of the cast. Christopher Guest of Spinal Tap rejoins with Harry Shearer, also of Spinal Tap, and combined with Crystal and Short there's no stopping the comedy genius.
