Editorial Review:

Description:
Even if you don't know your mean from your median, The Standard Deviants will introduce you to the world of mathematical prediction and analysis with a laid-back format, memory-enhancing skits and computer graphics. Part 1 covers: Population, stem and leaf displays, samples, elements of a statistical problem, mean, median, mode, the distribution curve, and standard deviation.

Sample this! If statistics is just a bunch of boring Greek letters and mind-numbing words to you, pop the Standard Deviants Academic Team's Statistics, Part 1 into your VCR and watch probability come alive. You wouldn't know it's been meticulously designed by educators, students, and writers to make its subject simpler and more interesting than traditional textbooks unless you read the fine print, because its fast-paced action and captivating computer graphics are entertaining enough to watch on their own merits. Cleverly insinuating the basic concepts of statistics (description vs. inference, measures of central tendency, variance, and such) into humorous sketches and monologues, the highly praised Standard Deviants create an outstanding supplement for the frustrated student--but, as they warn, this tape is no substitute for texts and lectures; use it to complement a class. The package comes with a few 'cheat sheets' that will help the viewer follow along, making a great deal even better. --Rob Lightner

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Super tape
This tape really covers the subject well. I enjoyed the approach - it makes it much easier to learn a difficult subject.

If you're looking for a quick review of statistical concepts I'd suggest a cliffs notes book or something the equivalent thereof that is accurate, simple and concise. In all fairness, the people in this tape try so hard to be funny that it's hard to concentrate and focus on what they're really saying as a result. It's really only helpful if you've taken the course - if I was watching this without any understanding of Statistics I would have been lost. These concepts behind producing these tapes ...
