Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
Kizuna 1 is the first half of the old (1994) two-part OVA based on Kazuma Kodaka's manga, but with new subtitles. High school kendo champion Ranmaru was injured saving his friend Kei from an oncoming car, and gave up the sport. Three years later, Ranmaru and Kei are lovers, sharing an apartment while they attend college. When a lecherous professor tries to seduce Ranmaru, Kei's half-brother Kai comes to his rescue. Kai admired Ranmaru in high school, and hopes to steal him from Kei. As the half-brothers are martial artists and the sons of a yakuza kingpin, the rivalry turns violent. Kizuna is a yaoi classic: a romance involving handsome young men written by a woman for a female audience. The reissue was taken from a better print and features a more idiomatic English translation than the previously available version, but giving viewers only 30 minutes of animation on a DVD seems stingy. (Rated 16 and older: violence, brief nudity, sexual situations, including homosexuality, alcohol and tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Nice Addition to Your Collection
If you are a big fan of Kodaka's seriesKizuna - Bonds of Love Book 1 (Yaoi)Kizuna - Bonds of Love: Book 2 (Yaoi), as I am, you will probably want this set. It is both very true to some of the incidents in the first two volumes, but also adds some rather silly plot elements which are not in the manga. I didn't like these additions. What I liked was the almost literal use of some of Kodaka's panels in the manga and seeing them animated. It was also interesting to hear the voices of the Japanese ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Viewing
A brilliant anime and true to the book, great graphics, my only irritation with some of it is the speed of the subtitles which can appear and disappear quite fast at times. Apart from that I'm glad I've got it and look forward to getting other volumes in the future.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - sceptical?
I was skeptical about this yaoi. My cuz bought it and I decided to check it out since he didn't want to watch it alone. Wow, it's funny and romantic at times. I'm glad i watched it!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Lovely Yaoi
Based on the hit manga that The Village Voice calls "a romantic epic" by yaoi superstar Kazuma Kodaka

Ranmaru and Kei have a strong and passionate relationship built on years of trust, sacrifice and love. But when the mysterious son of a Yakuza boss begins to pursue Ranmaru's affection, tempers flare, and hidden emotions rise to the surface. Will Ranmaru and Kei's love survive, or will the emotional conflict finally come to a head?

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - The sort of anime that made me avoid anime for so long
OK, it's got some (poorly done, btw) guy-on-guy action. I can't imagine any other reason anyone would watch this movie, and even that doesn't save it from being too silly for words. Perhaps if you've read the manga it's based on you can fill in some detail from that, but watched on its own, as I did, it's the worst sort of shallow "Plot? What plot?" anime dreck.

It also showcases the strange anime phenomenon of the "aggressive" lover; ie near-rapist. Guy 1: "No, honey, I don't wanna". Guy ... Read More
