Editorial Review:
Amazon.com: This sequel to the Oscar-winning horror film based on the novel by William Peter Blatty was virtually laughed off the screen when it came out in 1977. It was an unintentionally hilarious mishmash and received such terrible reviews that director John Boorman yanked it out of theaters. He reedited it, cutting eight minutes in hopes of getting the story (written by William Goodhart) to the point of coherency, to no avail. The film remains a kind of reverse gold standard for sequels. It's still a ridiculously overacted, although at times visually haunting, movie. Richard Burton stars as a troubled priest (something of a specialty of his) who is brought in to follow up on the case of Linda Blair, who is institutionalized, still troubled by her encounter with the devil (who wouldn't be?). By the time they confront Satan's minion in the final struggle, you'll be rooting for evil to win. --Marshall Fine

Rating: - Sheer confusion (plus garbage)
Richard Burton has made some damned fine movies. This is definitely not one of them. Why he let himself be connected with such a confusing script and an awful cast is totally beyond me. He must have needed the money.
Linda Blair, who did a fine job in the first Exorcist, seems, like most child actors, to get worse & worse with each film.
I found this the most confusing and pointless movie I've ever seen. Fot God's sake (or even for Satan's), give this one a miss.
Rating: - 2.5 Stars: What a Disappointment...
I probably can't say much about this film that hasn't already been said, but I feel the need to at the very least state my low opinion of this film. For me being an avid horror fan, I've seen my fair share of bad sequels, but this one in particular, really disappoints me. I guess its because that The Exorcist was such a classic piece of film making, and for this film to be even related to that one, much less being a sequel, is just sad. In no way, shape or form, does this sequel even close to matching ... Read More
Rating: - Vastly Underrated Film
Okay, fine, this is not the best film you'll ever see. However, it did not deserve the critical bashing it received. The big reason why it was so hated was not so much the quality as it was the fact that it did not restrict itself within the confines of the first film; it went off on its own imaginitive, visually spell-binding way.
It was accused of being too fantastic, too far-fetched. However, when the source material involves demonic possession, why not go for broke. And that's what this ... Read More
Rating: - What is that they say about sequels?
Exorcist 2 The Heretic in no way at all compares with the original. In fact, it's not even in the same league or sport. I don't consider it a total failure though. It does have its moments.
Linda Blair returns in her ever so sexiness glory. And man did she have a body back then. Anyways, she's suffering from nightmares that took place in the original. Also a priest is sent to investigate the death of Father Meran. The priest who conducted the first exorcism.
Right away where this ... Read More
