Editorial Review:
Product Description: This is a practical, comprehensive approach to learning Afro-Cuban, Brazilian and South American styles of bass playing, featuring 3 CDs of Berklee professor Oscar Stagnaro playing with three different world-class rhythm sections. The book consists mostly of transcriptions of every note Oscar plays on the accompanying CDs. Some amazing music, and logically progressing from simple to complex examples of each style.

Rating: - Excellent!! Comprehensive is an understatement.
If you are wanting to learn Latin bass lines this may be the only book you need. This is an extremely comprehensive book. It comes with 3 CDs full of amazing songs. The players are absolutely top notch and these are full songs not excercises. You can pan the bass out of the mix which is a great chance to see exactly where you are. I really don't like instructional CDs that do not allow you to remove the instrument you are trying to learn. I think it is helpful and sometimes sobering to just hear ... Read More
Rating: - Very Helpful
Very helpful and the CD's are a boon. Not only are cd's good for your bass playing, but if you want to develop your percussion you can play clave, cowbell, guiro and anyother percussion along with the cd's provided.
Rating: - What does one say?
This is a MASSIVE book (262 pages!) of latin bass in all it's various styles. We are not talking simple repetive patterns here either, we are talking from moderate to complex lines with excellent notation and a top notch CD set behind it.
If you want to learn Latin Bass, you can start here, and stop here, as you won't find more and better probably anywhere else. Although it is not a Real Book, You can think of that kind of setup and variety.
Rating: - Good intro to latin bass playing
This book is well thought, thorough and enjoyable. Comes with 3 CDs that stand alone on their own, if you don't mind having bass on one side and the rest of the band on the other. This arrangement allows you to pan the track and play along with the band, or focus on the bass line only. I googled some of the guys who play with Oscar in these CDs and they are first rate musicians with impressive resumes (try Rebeca Mauleón).
It comes with no tab, but the first bass lines are simple enough ... Read More
Rating: - Brush your latin teeth!
It is rare that a player as accomplished as Mr. Stagnaro takes the time and the trouble to share his knowledge and enjoyment so generously.
This is TONS of wonderful music and - let me get personal for a moment - for over a year now in one way or another I've been coming back to this stuff every single day of my life, usually before brushing my teeth.
The CDs are something else, the book is wonderfully edited.
Not often stunned, this is one of the rare occasions that really merit, ... Read More
