Product Description: Illustrations by Thomas Scmid. Foreword by Vice Admiral Sir Louis le Bailly. Through the twilight years of the British Empire the battlecruiser HMS Hood was the glory ship of the Royal Navy. Unmatched in size and beauty, Hood defined English sea power from her keel-laying in 1916 to her destruction at the hands of the Bismarck in 1941. This fascinating new volume is a seminal work in the field of naval ship histories. Among its eye-catching features is a unique gallery of photographs, including still frames from a recently discovered piece of color film of the ship, plus a spectacular set of computer-generated images of the ship's exterior and interior. The comprehensive text draws on official documents and the letters, diaries, memoirs, and reminiscences of more than 150 crewmen. Additionally, a wealth of new information on Hood's structure and operations make it important reading for everyone wanting to understand the inner functioning of one of the great capital ships of the past. 220 illustrations.

Rating: - An Incredible Voyage....
I do not believe that there is ANY other warship that has ever commanded the level of sheer fascination, awe and emotion associated with the British battlecruiser Hood. In fact, when one considers it, the destruction of the Hood is the reason that the German battleship Bismarck towers above all other German warships in fame! Many books have been written about Hood and Bismarck and their fateful encounter, but Bruce Taylor's "Biography" stands in a league by itself. It is not merely a history of the ... Read More

This book is one of the best technical naval books I have come across in a long time. The author has done an immense amount of research and it shows! He is also an excellent writer and the information is presented in a most informative and interesting manner.
The photographs are very inclusive and many have not been published before. The technical detail is wonderful: there are full descriptions of the machinery spaces and how they are operated, a description of a tour of the ship which ... Read More
Rating: - At last - The complete story.
For those who have been disappointed with what may have been written about HMS Hood in the past, your wait for a book worthy of such a great ship is finally at an end.
Just as soon as I opened the package I was aware I had a book of great quality in my hands and it was not long before those first impressions were reinforced by the content.
This is the complete story of the greatest ship ever to sail under the "HMS" prefix. It is also the story of what was, in the opinion of ... Read More
