One could say that Joe Bolton's subject matter is largely nostalgic; however, that skims the surface of his work. His mastery of language and his poetic sensibilities are those of a seasoned poet well beyond Mr. Bolton's years. His work subtly and sometimes directly pays homage to many great poets who have come before him--and Bolton IS a great poet (not one solely driven by youthful enthusiasm or romanticism.)
