Edson is a writer who has devoted himself to an exploration of the absurd. In my opinion, this is his most successful book. I discovered this book when I was 20, and it profoundly affected me. I recently re-read "The Reason Why the Closet Man is Never Sad", and what struck me this time was that Edson is not as formulaic in these poems as he is in much of his subsequent work.
