Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A great zombie book
I enjoyed this book alot. If you like zombies, real characters that feel like the people you meet everyday, then this one is a good read. It is well written and the story moves fast. A great addition to the zombie literature out there and one of the best in my eyes, if for no other reason than because it was mass marketed and had better editing. If you like zombies get this book.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great book. Good & fun enough to read twice
I've actually read Dead City two different times. It was a great read each time. The second time was a year later when I had ran out out books for my zombie fix and had exhausted new books to read. It was like re-watching a DVD movie you had liked.

Now, the aspect I like most about zombie fiction is the post apocalyptic aspect and I do prefer Romero type zombies. Another aspect I like about zombie lore is interesting characters and seeing how they survive.

Being careful ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - A fun read, until the last few chapters.
The book started out pretty well, and was a lot of fun for 150 pages or more - good horror, good realistic loss of companions and so forth. Action movie grade realism. Then, in the last quarter of the book - all logic fell apart. The hero starts making no sense at all and almost everything becomes very far-fetched and inconsistent.
The last 50 pages or so are awful - but it was a fun ride for a while, and I wanted to acknowledge that.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Lively Dead People
Joe McKinney does a creditable job in writing a thrilling story with a time-worn cast of characters. Anyone who's ever seen George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" knows the story line. The action is predictable: Protagonist(s) run and hide from re-vivified dead people who are hungry for human flesh. "Normal" people engage in horrific and bloody slaughter of dead people, with plenty of attendant gore and slimy intestines hanging from mutilated bodies that refuse to fall over and be still. And yet, ... Read More
