Editorial Review:
Product Description: Some readers may recognize their mothers as well as themselves in this book. They will also find specific suggestions for creating healthier relationships. Addressing the adult children of borderlines and the therapists who work with them, Dr. Lawson shows how to care for the waif without rescuing her, to attend to the hermit without feeding her fear, to love the queen without becoming her subject, and to live with the witch without becoming her victim.

Rating: - very informative
This book was very informative. It describes four profiles of borderline mothers and how their behaviors can impact their children. It provides suggestions for how children can deal with their mothers and try to have the best possible relationship and stay healthy.
Rating: - Very helpful
I thought this book was very helpful and informative. It made me feel less alone, though it brought up a lot of emotions. I have a borderline mother and I myself was hospitalized for it. After 6 years of therapy and three hospitalizations I felt I had completely found my way out and gotten better. Though I had done a lot of work I realized when reading this book how much more work I can and should do. It also helps me understand and sympathize with my mother and her intense personality much better. ... Read More
Rating: - You aren't alone
Just the idea that someone out there KNOWS the patterns is a tremendous relief. Doubly so if there is an atmosphere of denial within your immediate family.
I'd recommend buying this book just for that.
However, I'd strongly recommend keeping it from your Borderline Mother. If she finds it, its certain disaster unless she is one of the happy few who is willing to admit that something is wrong, and also willing to seek and accept treatment.
Chances are, if she ... Read More
Rating: - really did change my life
Although it's a cliche, I have to say that this book changed my life. All my life, I knew something was wrong at home and that it had something to do with my mother, but I couldn't put my finger on it. No one else understood. This book finally showed me what "it" was. I felt so relieved. Now that I know what "it" is, I can decide what to do--or not do.
Lawson describes four types or aspects of borderline mothers: the Waif, the Queen, the Hermit, and the Witch. (One person can have traits ... Read More
Rating: - Understanding the Borderline Mother:Helping her Children Transcend the Intense
This book is a masterpiece. Insightful and validating; very well researched. I recommend it to anyone who has had a Borderline mother or who wants to have greater insight into various types of Borderline Personality Disorder.
It will make you feel understood and not alone in your silence for a change.
