The `Real Kids Readers' are very good for 'real' beginning readers. The Level 1 books actually have simple, short sentences which are presented in large easy type. The word selection, as well, is very good for beginners. Words in this book include: fur, red, small, big, likes, sit, up, bed, fat, flat, skip, hop, and the like.
The photos are where the series really shines however. The pictures of real children are simply mesmerizing for kids.

I am a homeschooling mom and was so thrilled to find this series! Once your child has mastered three-letter words and some sight words, they can begin with Real Kids Readers. My daughter was ecstatic to say, "Mom, I read a whole book myself!" for the first time with My Pal, Al. In the story, a young girl describes her best pal, a stuffed rabbit, and all the fun they have together. The photos are bright and cheery, without giving too many hints to the text. My son is a beginning reader and loves this story. I've purchaed others in the series because of this books modern appearance and good sense of humor. Nice choice.
