This book is very boring and noting new, just some basic advice on eating well and exercise that written in a different way. Jim refers to himself as a fitness/nutrition guru, yet he hold no formal education or training in exercise. He is not certified by any of the major and accredited trainer certification organizations. This is an excellent book, I highly recommend it. The author takes on the issue of weight loss in a very sraight-forward, no-nonsense fashion. He gives you valuable tips and techniques on how to go about the problem of losing weight. If you like things that are clear, not left to interpretation, and are a viable plan-- you'll love this book!! Bravo.

Rating: - Gets to the "bottom line" on weight loss
This book is easy to read and very sensible. It helps you understand the basic facts about keeping fit, for a lifetime and not just based on the latest fad method.
I found it to be educational regarding basics of nutrition and exercise. The importance of reasonable weight training to add more fat burning capacity to your body is a key factor that I learned.

This book is all about common sense. The whole science of dieting is all about numbers. If you can find out your metabolic rate and then plan your calories and exercise accordingly, you will be successful at weight loss. When you come right down to it, as Jim Karas mentions throughout this book - it is the amount of calories in versus the number of calories expended.

I've personally met Jim and he is refreshingly on of the most genuine, caring, and honest people I've ever met. He is truly an inspiration.
Both of his books offer some tough advice about weight loss (no gimmicks here!) His solution is the only to succeeding at long-term weight loss. Jim is constantly informed of new research and incorporates it into his writings. He is a contributing editor for Good Housekeeping magazine.
