Product Description: How do you recover the past when it was never yours to lose?
Delia Hopkins has led a charmed life. Raised in rural New Hampshire by her beloved, widowed father, she now has a young daughter, a handsome fiance, and her own search-and-rescue bloodhound, which she uses to find missing persons. But as Delia plans her wedding, she is plagued by flashbacks of a life she can't recall...until a policeman knocks on her door, revealing a secret about herself that changes the world as she knows it -- and threatens to jeopardize her future. With Vanishing Acts, Jodi Picoult explores how life -- as we know it -- might not turn out the way we imagined; how the people we've loved and trusted can suddenly change before our very eyes; how the memory we thought had vanished could return as a threat. Once again, Picoult handles an astonishing and timely topic with under-standing, insight, and compassion.

Rating: - First Encounter with Picoult
Jodi Picoult has characters with lots of depth. Vanishing Acts is a fascinating story of a father and his daughter living a quiet, simple life in a small town in New Hampshire until one day there is a knock at their door...
I enjoyed the style Picoult's writing, hearing from each of the main characters in their own voice. The relationship of Delia, Eric and Fitz, childhood playmates and life long friends, was another fascinating dimension of the book.

Rating: - So much carelessness!
I only read this because our book discussion group chose it. Many of us were amazed at the inconsistencies and errors in the book. The major error (that seemed to be a case of sloppiness on the author's part) was the age difference of the main characters. If Delia is 32 and her mother gives her age as 47 when she is sworn in at Andrew's trial, then Andrew was guilty of something worse than kidnapping. Marrying and/or getting a 15 year old pregnant would have landed him in Sheriff Joe's jail long ... Read More

Rating: - Vanishing Act
Jodi Picoult's "Vanishing Acts", was well written but the story line left much to be desired in my opinion. It's not a book that I would recommend.
Rating: - Tried to read but couldn't..
This was loaned to me by a co-worker who loved the book. I could not get through it. I tried but couldn't. She could have made this book in half the pages. On and on about her mother and what could have been.
