Rating: - Perfect for a young toddler
Honestly, I'm glad some parents have found this book helpful in preparing their children for doctor's visits. Personally, though, I like it because it is:
1. Short.
2. Colorful, with simple illustrations.
3. Featuring Corduroy. Not Corduroy as I knew him as a child, but Corduroy who my 1.5 year old son cannot tear apart (he's not READY for a longer book, and how could the classic Corduroy tales be retold in 12 pages?).
4. Has something of a plot--arrives at the office ... Read More
Rating: - This is a twelve page, ninety-two word book.
The book raises false expectations. After reading Corduroy Goes to the Doctor, your child will expect all the books in the doctor's office to be about him or her. Your child may wonder, how does Corduroy get to the doctor? Corduroy notes that the waiting room contains toys and books, but instead of waiting there for quite a while, he is immediately whisked into the examination room by an underage nurse. No insurance information is requested and no co-pay required. Then, the doctor freely berates Corduroy ... Read More
Rating: - Perfect to overcome your kids fear of the doctor!
My little 2 1/2 year old always cried and screamed when he would go to the doctor. Before his next appointment, we got this book and it made a huge difference. Everytime the doctor would check him, he would say "like Corduroy Daddy?" I would say yes and he would let the doctor do what she needed to do. This book is very cute and works very well.
Rating: - Charmless, but potentially useful
It makes me a little sad to see how far Corduroy has fallen from those first amazing books... The illustrations are generic and kind of cheesy, and the text is pretty thoughtless -- when Corduroy gets weighed his doctor notes that he has "...gained a lot of pounds; too many cookies Corduroy," with the little bear looking downcast as he stands mostly naked on the scale. Let's hope our pediatricians treat weight issues with a little more sensitivity. Still, I'm forced to give this book 3 stars for the reasons ... Read More
Rating: - Corduroy Goes to the Doctor
This is an excellent book to prepare your child before going to the doctor. Many children are afraid of the unexpected. Being in the medical field, I find that children who are prepared beforehand do better. This book describes Corduroy's day at the doctor. It gives vivid pictures of him entering the office, being weighed, and having his throat and ears examined. It also shows the doctor listening to Corduroy's heart while giving him breathing instructions! At the end Corduroy gets a shot as the doctor ... Read More
